The “CancerInfo” Information and Support Center for Cancer Patients
was established on May 7, 2004, in Novi Sad, Serbia, by the Ecumenical
Humanitarian Organization and the Institute of Oncology in Sremska
Kamenica, and is the first institution of its kind in the country.
It was conceived as a response to the urgent need
for providing information on cancer issues and emotional support for
cancer patients, their families and friends, as there is no such
service available at cancer centers and hospitals in Vojvodina
(Serbia). Its goals also include public education through printing and
distribution of booklets/leaflets on cancer prevention and early
detection. The Center is designed to be a volunteer-based
self-supporting service center that provides help to its users free of
charge.
“CancerInfo”
provides information and emotional support for patients and their
families and friends. Users can obtain support via a phone help line,
personal visits to the Center, e-mail, and regular mail. |
